Our ceramics are made by local artists - ordinary people from the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, who are given training, materials, a studio and a guaranteed market for their work, under the guidance of our founder, Fée Halsted.
Sthembiso was born in 1991 and lives in Mphophomeni outside Howick with his two sons.
He came to Ardmore in 2010 to join his mother, sculptor Betty Ntshingila. Like his mother, Sthembiso is very sculptural in his work: he can throw but is predominantly a painter.
In a short time he has become a wonderful painter in the expressionist style, with a love of wild lizard and fish pieces. His crocodiles are magnificent.
Sthembiso, who left in 2012, but has since returned to the studio, says of Ardmore: “Ikhulisa amathalente ethu.”
He is a great reader and singer.
