“Pulling the Python’s Tail” –

  • Masterwork no. 11

Teboho Ndlovu captures the wonderful, intoxicating rhythms of the African bush in this stunning Zambezi Masterwork. We love how the python curls and writhes against the edge of this magnificent bowl, each scale beautifully rendered along the twisting snake’s skin. Adding a playful feel are the delightful monkeys who run away from, and taunt, the python on the rim. Painter, Wiseman Ndlovu, has, using black and gold, added power to the slithering python and to the scalloped base of the dish. He has also painted every hair and added witty expressions to each of the monkeys, which gives the piece its lightness and playfulness. The lucky bean foliage, painted in the white empty space, contrasts and compliments the beautiful snake. The elegant drama of this work makes it one of our favourite and most triumphant Zambezi-themed pieces for this year.
