Lillian’s Lovebird Urn
On one of Fee’s visits to the Chewore in the Zambezi Valley, she encountered flocks of Lilian’s Lovebirds for the first time, and this urn is inspired by that sighting. This piece was sculpted by Thabo Mbhele and painted by Mandla Ngwenya, who has used a tropical palette that captures the lush valley’s vegetation. The realism of this vase is so powerful that you can almost hear the sound of parrot calls.
Thabo was born in 1984 in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Educated until Grade 5, he travelled to South Africa and found work building houses in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
