Baboon & Chameleon Jug
This exquisite jug was hand-coiled by Somandla Ntshalinthsali to accompany the new Ardmore Collection, Cole & Son wallpaper ‘Savuti’. Somandla has used a Mandrill monkey at the front of the vessel. Sitting snugly in the crook of the jug’s spout, the elegant curl of the monkey’s tail, swirls into that of the chameleon to form the handle. Somandla has also added a small hoopoe to the piece, which Misiwe Hadebe has highlighted by drawing and painting two more hoopoe on either side of the vessel. She has also painted coral tree flowers and aloes. Every scale, feather and Mandrill hair detail shows her pride and enjoyment in painting this work.
