Our ceramics are made by local artists - ordinary people from the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, who are given training, materials, a studio and a guaranteed market for their work, under the guidance of our founder, Fée Halsted.
Thobani Malinga was born on the 6th April 1996. Hailing from Lidgetton, he went to Jabula Combined School.
Thobani was introduced to Ardmore by Siyabonga Mabaso who told him about the ceramic studio and advised him to sign up for the annual Winter School in June 2016.
A realist painter, Thobani is inspired by the work of Mama Ntombela.
Since joining Ardmore, his work was included in the Toggies and Takkies exhibition at the Ebony Gallery in Cape Town in 2016.
“Ardmore has helped me realise my talent,” Thobani says. “I have a job and I can provide for my family.”
